Create Banner image for your sample page in Fireworks. The image should be as wide as your container div and between 80px and 200px tall and less than 40kb in size. Emailed tswallace@ualr.edu before class on Monday. Have fun with this. You can make an image for anything. It could be a company, an event, a hobby etc. I’d like to see the following elements present in your design. Typographical Element, some sort of photographic element or vector artwork, and a consistent color scheme (Try Kuler).
Next class I’ll show you how to integrate this image into your template page properly. Please bring the file to class.
Make sure you have done the following by Tuesday of next week. We’ll be moving on to new topics so you should have all blog related issues and assignments squared away.

Post optimized samples of the images you created to your blog with an explanation of the tools and approach you used.
Homework (Due 8.29.17): Write your first blog post reflecting on your first week in the program and your personal expectations for the class. Make sure you categorize and/or tag the post. If you are feeling adventurous try adding a photo to the post as well. There is no length requirement for this assignment.
Evaluate your favorite web site based on our discussion of Structure, Content, Design, and Behavior. This is a written assignment that should be emailed to me (tswallace@ualr.edu) no later than 8-29-17. Make sure you discuss the following elements: Site URL, An assessment of the Structure, Content, Design, and Behavior of the site, Things you like about the site, Things you would change.
Homework (Due 8.24.17): Visit WordPress.com and create a new blog. This will be where you reflect and write over the course of the next semester. Send me the address of your blog via email (tswallace@ualr.edu). We will review all of the settings on Thursday. (Note: your address will be some like so… yourchosenname.wordpress.com)
Setup and Account at Codepen.io. the free account is acceptable for the work we will do in class.

Complete the following tutorials and submit the folder icon you create in the 3rd tutorial.
You should email this icon to me before class next Thursday. Late submissions will not be accepted. I do not expect you to perfectly replicate the icon in the tutorial but I would like to see a solid effort from each of you. This is a challenging assignment so I encourage you to not wait until the night before it is due. You are welcome to use any graphic design software you have access to to complete the assignment. Begin looking for ways you can implement jQuery into your final project. Identify what is it you’d like to do (image gallery, carousel, lazy load etc.) and begin researching what it takes to get it implemented.
Setup your personal work environment to support Sass/SCSS to experiment further. Start simple and then build in complexity as needed. Review the Sass Style Guide for a deeper look.

Complete Getting Started with programming at Codecademy. Send me a a screenshot of the completion page. I recommend creating an account so you can save your progress and completion other modules in the future.
Using your own images and breakpoints create a working responsive image demo using one of the techniques covered in class today. Please send the working demo to me. Remember that I’d like to see this technique implemented in your final project. Keep that in mind as you work through the design of your demo.
Complete writing CSS for the example we have been working on in class. Submit the finished result to me no later than next Monday.

Finish up work on your Bootstrap prototypes today submit the URL for review. I will have the classroom open if you choose to work there. If you are having difficulties with Bootstrap, I encourage you to collaborate with your classmates or send me a link to your code to look over so I may assist. Please try to have the prototype finished up by Thursday so we can discuss theming and introduce concepts relating to responsive media. I’ll see you Thursday.
Today I’d like you to use Bootstrap to implement the wireframe you created for your final project. On Tuesday, be prepared to give a status update on your final project and demo your rapid prototype to the class.

Begin work on the Segway Projects. You should have a good start on your main page template prior to class on Monday.
Refine your site concept and create a preliminary sitemap for the site/app using a service discover in class. Experiment with one of the prototyping tools we discussed in class and build a prototype of the desktop and mobile views of your new site. This only needs to an outline.
Use Kuler or a similar tool to generate a color scheme for your web site. You should make note of the hexadecimal color values of your scheme. If you need more information check out the following post on deciding on good colors.
