Building a Responsive Resume

Assignment

Complete the mobile first styling of you resume. I’d like you design to reflect your own taste and not replicate what we did in class. Please read the following Article and be prepared apply the concepts included within to your work in lab on Thursday. On Thursday you will have a lab in which you add a desktop view to you site using media queries.

Homework – Style all major elements in your current index.html file. You should apply some sort of layout and then make sure you style all of the elements in the content area of the site as well. Upload to the web server and send the link (tswallace@ualr.edu) to me before class on the February 18th, 2013. This is an exercise in experimenting with different css properties and values. If it doesn’t look perfect that is okay. I want you to play.

The goal of this exercise is familiarize you with the proposed Microdata Spec and to get your brain wrapped around its use. Be prepared to discuss in class on Tuesday.

Transitioning to HTML5

In Class Assignment

Visit 10 Websites / Services you frequent. For each you should provide me with the site url, declared doctype, and a list of linked resources with the relationships. Only include the relationship information for elements we have not discussed. I’d like for you to discover as many new relationship types as possible. There is no need to list all relationship attributes for the site, only ones that are new to you. Once completed select one of the new relationship types and provide me with an explanation of its purpose.

Evaluate your favorite web site based on our discussion of Structure, Content, Design, and Behavior. This is a written assignment that should be emailed to me (tswallace@ualr.edu) no later than 1-24-13. Make sure you discuss the following elements: Site URL, An assessment of the Structure, Content, Design, and Behavior of the site, Things you like about the site, Things you would change.

Find and complete one jquery tutorial on the web. Upload the finished project to your web space and send me a link to the working example. Finish as homework due Thursday (4.17.12). When evaluating the script make sure that the page is still usable without Javascript enabled. You should pick something that can be integrated into your current site to meet the above mastery requirement.
