Adding Audio and Video

What you’ll need for this exercise.

  • Audio or Video if you would like to use it
  • Microsoft Powerpoint

Embedding Video

  1. Place the video file (.wmv) you downloaded in the same directory as your photo album presentation.
  2. Open the photo album presentation you created yesterday.
  3. In the slide view right-click and select new slide
  4. Right Click the new slide and select the “Title and Content” layout
  5. On the new slide you inserted select the video camera icon (bottom right option)
  6. Browse to the file video file you downloaded. Note: It is important that you keep all of the audio and video files in the same directory as the presentation.
  7. You will be prompted to select whether or not the file will play automatically or when it is clicked. For this exercise select automatically
  8. Arrange the clip on the slide until you are pleased with the look.
  9. Save the Presentation
  10. To preview the video you must view the video in slide show mode. Remember to ajust the slide transition timings to match the video length (Animations Tab in the Ribbon)

Embedding Audio (That plays through multiple slides)

  1. Download the sample audio file (Sample Audio) – Right click on the link and save link/target as
  2. Select the First Slide from the slide viewer
  3. From the Insert Tab in the Ribbon select Sound > Sound from File
  4. Browse to the audio file and press ok
  5. You will be prompted to select whether or not the file will play automatically or when it is clicked. For this exercise selectautomatically
  6. Select the Audio Icon (looks like a speaker)
  7. In the ribbon you should now see Sound Tools
  8. Check Loop until stopped and Hide Sound Icon During Slide show.
  9. Select the Animations tab in the ribbon.
  10. Click Custom Animation. A new pane should appear on the right side of the screen.
  11. Double-click on the audio.mp3 entry
  12. Under the effects tab you should have the following settings checked.
    1. Start Playing From the Beginning
    2. Stop Playing after X# of Slides (Depends on the number of slides in the presentation)
  13. Under the Timing tab you should have the following settings checked.
    1. Start after Previous
    2. Set the Delay and Repeat Options as necessary
  14. Save the File
  15. Preview the slide show. Depending on the the length of the audio file and or the video you might ned to tweak the timings on slide transitions.
