Final Project Lab - October 3, 2016

Assignment

  • Project Leader Should send a google calendar invite with time and location information (tswallace@ualr.edu)
  • After the project is completed, be sure to submit a paper reflecting on the entire process – Be sure to discuss initial reaction to the project, how you planned to get the project completed,  a difficult moment during the project and how you dealt with the situation, what you would do differently if you had to do it all over again, an evaluation of your teammates performance, and a thorough discussion of the benefits of Service Learning. This should be a minimum of two pages and submitted to me no later than 5:00pm on October 12, 2016. This is a firm deadline. Assignment is worth 15% of your total grade.

Service Learning and Final Project Overview - September 26, 2016

Assignment

  • Service Learning Project Topic – Submit for Approval
  • Team Organization – Who is responsible for what. Everyone should have a role.
  • Project Scheduling – Book your date and time with the DSC for your booth (Week Before Finals)
  • Submit to me as a Google Doc your project proposal (1 Per Team). This document should include all of the information listed above. Due to me by next Monday. Be prepared to give a status report to the class (one per team).
  • You are welcome to meet as a team later this week and begin work on the project. I’ll try and get your topic approved within 24 hours of submitting your proposal. After today, you’ll have next weeks session to work on the project.

Class Presentations - September 19, 2016

Assignments

  1. Complete the final two sessions of Power Searching with Google.
  2. Write a blog post about 5 new tips/tricks you learned from the Power Searching with Google course. Please explain each technique and a situation where you might use it to find valuable information. Due September 26th.
  3. After your presentation, Write a Blog Post – Reflect on your presentation. What were your strengths & weaknesses? Identify areas you could improve and discuss possible strategies for doing so. Please be thorough. In addition to the post please share the presentation file with me via Google Drive or email.

Scavenger Hunt

Assignment

  1. Before class on September 12  complete the first two sessions of Power Searching with Google course. Create a Google doc and share it with tswallace@ualr.edu. In this document, I’d like you to take notes from the Power Searching with Google course. Once we have completed the course you will use these notes to craft a blog post containing lessons learned from the workshop. Do not email me this document!. Use the built in sharing functionality of Google Docs. If you do not know how to do this you can look here for help.
  2. Write a blog post reflecting  on the experience you had during the scavenger hunt this week. Discuss how your team decided to tackle the hunt, whether or not you felt like you worked as a team, and what you would do differently.
  3. Be prepared to to present to the class on September 12. Make sure you follow the requirements listed here. It will take two sessions to get through the entire class but everyone should be prepared to present the first day. I will randomly generate a list for presentation order. If you are not prepared at your selected time you will have to visit the Communication SCIL Center and record your presentation. These will be distributed to the class. It is in your best interest to be prepared and present in your allotted time.

Set up a new blog account on WordPress.com. If you need assistance, spend some time with the documentation. Please make sure to apply a theme to your blog and personalize it to the best of your ability.

Write your first blog post reflecting on your personal expectations for the semester. Make sure you categorize and/or tag the post. If you are feeling adventurous try adding a photo to the post.
